Panaji, Jun 10: A group of 28 tourists from Kerala was admitted to a hospital in Goa after reportedly suffering from suspected food poisoning during their vacation, health officials said on Wednesday.

According to medical authorities, the tourists began experiencing symptoms such as vomiting and severe abdominal discomfort late on Tuesday night after allegedly consuming food in the Old Goa area.

South Goa District Hospital Superintendent Dr. Rajendra Borkar said the first patients arrived at the hospital around 10:50 pm, with the inflow of patients continuing until approximately 1:30 am.

“Twenty-eight individuals sought medical treatment, and the majority were found to be in stable condition upon arrival,” Dr. Borkar stated.

Following medical evaluation and treatment, 25 of the affected tourists were discharged after their condition improved. Three patients — two women and a child — were kept under observation and administered intravenous fluids as a precautionary measure.

However, hospital officials said the three patients later chose to leave the facility against medical advice despite being advised to remain under observation.

Health authorities are monitoring the situation and are expected to investigate the source of the suspected food poisoning. Officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the illness.

The incident has raised concerns about food safety, particularly in tourist areas, as authorities work to determine whether contaminated food was responsible for the outbreak.
