Mumbai, Jun 13: Kangana Ranaut-starrer Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, based on the courage and resilience of nurses during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, opened to a modest response at the box office on its first day in theatres.

Directed by Manoj Tapadia, the film was released nationwide on June 12 and earned an estimated Rs 1 crore on its opening day, according to industry tracking reports. The film's India gross collection is estimated at around Rs 1.19 crore.

The movie was screened across 2,181 shows nationwide and recorded an overall occupancy of approximately 11 per cent on its opening day.

The film narrates the story of nurses at Mumbai's Cama Hospital who played a crucial role in safeguarding patients during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. While Kangana Ranaut leads the cast, the film also highlights the contributions and personal stories of other characters, particularly the camaraderie among the nursing staff.

Despite receiving positive feedback for its performances and emotional narrative, the film faced stiff competition at the box office from several major releases.

The movie clashed with Main Vaapas Aaunga, directed by Imtiaz Ali and starring Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari, Vedang Raina and Naseeruddin Shah. It also competed with Governor starring Manoj Bajpayee.

Additionally, the film shared screens with Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai featuring Varun Dhawan and the Hollywood release He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Apart from Kangana Ranaut, the film features performances by Girija Oak, Smita Tambe, Sayaji Shinde, Vijay Gokhale, Prasad Oak, Rasika Agashe and Esha Dey.

Industry observers will now be watching whether positive word-of-mouth helps the film gain momentum over the weekend.
