Mangaluru, Jun 14: In a grand and spiritually uplifting ceremony, 62 young faithful of Holy Family Church, Omzoor, received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday, June 14. The solemn eucharistic celebration was presided over by, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, the bishop of Mangaluru, who administered the sacrament. The solemn mass was co-celebrated by Fr William Menezes parish priest, Fr Rahul Dexter resident priest, Fr Wilson OCD, and Fr Anup Fernandes OCD, in the presence of a large gathering of parishioners, parents, and well-wishers.
The day began with a wave of devotion and enthusiasm as the candidates eagerly prepared for this significant milestone in their Christian journey. Prior to the mass, bishop Peter Paul Saldanha conducted a meaningful catechism session for the confirmation candidates. Engaging directly with the youth, the Bishop tested their knowledge of the faith by asking various questions, which the students answered confidently.

During his insightful sermon, bishop Peter Paul Saldanha focused deeply on the day's scriptural readings and the Gospel. He emphasized the profound role of the Holy Spirit and His continuous workings within our individual lives and the wider world. He reminded the candidates that they have received the fruits and gifts from the Holy Spirit, not for themselves, but for Jesus and the community. He challenged each youth to adopt the mindset of being chosen by God to be His missionary, a healer, a helper, and a supporter, while passionately urging the congregation to constantly encourage the youth to uplift society and engage in good works.
Following the homily, the rite of confirmation commenced, and the bishop administered the sacrament, sealing the 62 candidates with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Eucharistic celebration then continued with deep reverence as usual.
At the conclusion of the Mass, the bishop delivered a powerful final message, expressing his heartfelt gratitude to the parents for sowing the seeds of faith in their children and upbringing them within the footprints of the Christian community. He also thanked the parish priest, the religious nuns, and the catechism teachers for their dedicated efforts in preparing the students for this sacrament.
Looking towards the future, the bishop sounded a realistic yet hopeful note, cautioning that the days ahead may bring difficulties. He stressed the urgent need to encourage and teach children to take forward the work of Jesus, making them bold enough to face society and navigate any challenges that may arise. Furthermore, he encouraged the young boys and girls to consider answering the call to priesthood and religious life.
The memorable event concluded with the distribution of confirmation certificates to the students, followed by refreshments served to all the faithful who participated in the mass.
