Udupi, Jun 18: The Karnataka Lokayukta police carried out a surprise inspection at the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) office on Thursday, June 18, following complaints that public applications were being kept pending for prolonged periods without disposal.
The sudden operation was led by Udupi Lokayukta inspector Manjunath along with a team of officials. During the inspection, the team visited various key sections and departments of the municipal office to examine the status of pending public applications, the pace of file disposal, and the overall administrative functioning.

Several complaints had been received from the public alleging that applications submitted to certain departments were lying unattended for long periods without any valid reason. Acting on these complaints, the Lokayukta officials inspected file management systems, reviewed the implementation of public services, and gathered information regarding delays in processing applications.
The unexpected visit by the Lokayukta team reportedly created a sense of anxiety among municipal officials and staff members, as a detailed scrutiny of records and administrative procedures was undertaken.
Officials of the City Municipal Council cooperated with the investigation and provided the required administrative records and documents sought by the Lokayukta team for verification.
The inspection and examination of records continued till the evening. The details regarding the number of pending files, the departments responsible for the delays, and the officials accountable are expected to emerge only after the Lokayukta submits its detailed report.
