Bengaluru, Jul 5: In recognition of behavioural reform during incarceration, the Governor has issued an order granting premature release on the basis of good conduct, leading to the release of 24 life convicts from Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru and other prisons across Karnataka.
The prisoners, who were serving life sentences across various jails in the state, were released after their conduct and reform were reviewed under the State’s remission policy.
A formal release programme was held at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, marking their exit from prison and the beginning of a new chapter after years behind bars.

Home minister Priyank Kharge attended the programme as the chief guest and handed over release orders to the prisoners. Senior prison department officials, including additional director general of police (Prisons) Alok Kumar and jail superintendent Anshu Kumar, were also present.
Officials stated that although the prisoners had been convicted in criminal cases, they had demonstrated sustained good conduct throughout their prison term and strictly adhered to institutional discipline. Based on their behavioural transformation and rehabilitation, and following departmental recommendations, the Governor approved their premature release.
With their release, the former convicts and their families expressed relief and hope, saying they were eager to reintegrate into mainstream society and begin life afresh.
