Udupi, Jul 5: Udupi District Fishermen's Congress Committee president Vishwas V Amin has submitted a memorandum to Karnataka health minister and Udupi district in-charge minister U T Khader, urging the government to construct a permanent seawall to protect Nadipattana in Padubidri from severe coastal erosion.

In the memorandum, Amin requested the construction of a permanent seawall along a stretch of approximately 700 metres, extending from the front of Panduranga Kotyan's residence towards Sagara Vidya Mandir in Nadipattana, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Padubidri gram panchayat.

He pointed out that persistent coastal erosion in the area has posed a serious threat to residential houses, public property, and the livelihoods of local fishing communities. During the monsoon, rough sea conditions further intensify the erosion, forcing residents to live under constant fear of damage to their homes and surroundings.

Amin noted that the concerned department has already completed a survey of the affected stretch. He urged the government to grant the necessary administrative approval and allocate funds at the earliest so that the construction of the proposed 700-metre seawall can commence without delay.

He stated that the project would effectively mitigate coastal erosion, safeguard the lives and properties of local residents, protect the interests of the fishing community, and ensure the long-term safety of the coastal region.
