Mangaluru, Jul 10: Just a fortnight after concerns were raised across the state regarding a deficit in monsoon showers, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for several districts, predicting intense downpours accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds over the next 24 hours.
The weather department has forecast maximum rainfall for the coastal and Malnad districts. A heavy rain alert has been sounded specifically for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Kodagu districts.

In addition to the coastal and hilly terrains, interior parts of the state including Bengaluru, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Mandya, and Mysuru districts are also expected to witness thundershowers. During this period, strong winds blowing at a speed of 40 to 50 kmph are anticipated.
Following the heavy downpour warning, the IMD has issued yellow and orange alerts for various vulnerable districts. The authorities have advised residents living in low-lying areas to remain highly vigilant.
The general public has been strictly instructed to stay away from rivers, water bodies, and reservoirs, while fishermen have been warned not to venture into the rough sea. Furthermore, the IMD has advised farmers to take precautionary measures to prevent waterlogging in their crop fields, and cautioned commuters against sheltering under trees or electric poles during heavy winds and lightning.
