Kundapur, July 14: Traffic on the busy National Highway 66 near Kota came to a brief standstill on Tuesday morning after a 25-year-old man allegedly staged a bizarre spectacle by setting up a table, television and sound system in the middle of the highway, leaving motorists and local residents shocked.

The youth, identified as Ranjith Somayaji (25), a resident near Bellada Ganapathi Temple in Kotathattu, was later taken into custody by the Kota police.

The incident occurred at around 10 am, when Ranjith allegedly placed a table in the middle of the carriageway, installed a television and loudspeaker system, and began playing music, obstructing the movement of vehicles and causing confusion among commuters. Alarmed by the unusual scene, motorists and local residents alerted the police.

A police team rushed to the spot to clear the obstruction and detain the youth. During the operation, Ranjith allegedly attempted to attack police personnel by brandishing a knife. He was subsequently overpowered, taken into custody and brought to the police station for questioning.

During the preliminary inquiry, police suspected that the youth could be suffering from a mental health condition. However, in the absence of any official medical records indicating that he had undergone psychiatric treatment, a case has been registered and further investigation is under way.

Meanwhile, videos of the unusual incident have gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and triggering discussions over the youth's erratic behaviour.
