Mangaluru, Aug 6: The Department of Nursing Administration, in collaboration with the final-year MSc Nursing and PBBSc Nursing students of Athena College of Nursing, successfully organised a state-level conference on August 6 on the theme ‘Smart learning, safe care, AI and simulation in modern nursing.’ The conference aimed to explore the integration of artificial intelligence and simulation in nursing education and clinical practice, emphasising patient safety, clinical decision-making, quality care, and the future of digital nursing.
The programme commenced with a prayer song, followed by a warm welcome address by Honey Gundami. The programme was presided over by Dr Ashith Shettian, managing trustee and president of the programme, Dr Shambavi the chief guest, Dr Diana Lobo, principal, Milagris College of Nursing and KSNC observer for today's conference appointed by Karnataka state Nursing council, Prof Sr Deepa Peter, principal, Athena Institute of Health Sciences, Dr Nandini M, principal, Athena Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Prof Sunitha Claudia Lobo, vice principal, Athena College of Nursing, Honey Gundami, assistant professor, Department of Nursing Administration and staff organising chairperson, Sheela Sebastian 2nd year MSc (N) and student organizing chairperson.
The conference was inaugurated by Prof Dr Shambavi, who unveiled the conference theme. The dignitaries, including Dr Ashith Shettian, Prof Sr Deepa Peter, Dr Diana Lobo (KSNC observer), and other distinguished guests, addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of innovation, technology, and ethical practice in modern nursing.
The scientific sessions featured expert talks by Dr Shambhavi on “Transforming nursing competencies through simulation and immersive technologies’, Dr Shalini Ganesh Nayak on ‘Enhancing clinical decision-making, quality care and patient outcomes’, and Dr Neetha Kamath on ‘Preparing for the future: Health 5.0 and digital transformation’. The sessions provided participants with valuable insights into emerging technologies and their application in nursing education and healthcare delivery.
The conference concluded with the presentation of the report by Sharon Soans, organising secretary. Dr Diana Lobo, KSNC observer, announced 8 credit points for the conference. The event served as an excellent platform for nursing professionals, educators, and students to exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices in digital nursing. The programme was successfully coordinated by the organising committee and was compered by Lavita D’Souza and Sudhina.
