Galle, Aug 19: India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant scripted another milestone during the opening Test against Sri Lanka at Galle, becoming India's highest run-scorer in World Test Championship history.
Pant smashed 66 off 69 balls in the second innings to take his WTC tally to 2,885 runs, moving past India captain Shubman Gill's 2,867 runs. Both players have featured in 41 WTC matches, but Pant has reached his tally in 73 innings, compared with Gill's 75.

Gill endured a rare failure in the Test, scoring 16 in the first innings and just eight in the second. Pant, meanwhile, continued his impressive run and added another landmark to his record.
The left-hander also completed 100 sixes in Test cricket during his second-innings knock. He became the first Indian batter and only the fourth player overall to achieve the feat, joining Ben Stokes, Brendon McCullum and Adam Gilchrist.
Pant entered the match needing three sixes to reach the landmark. After hitting one maximum in the first innings, he completed the milestone in the second innings against Lahiru Kumara. The six also brought up his half-century, which came off 53 balls.
Among India's other leading WTC run-scorers, Rohit Sharma is third with 2,716 runs, followed by Ravindra Jadeja with 2,632 and Virat Kohli with 2,617. Yashasvi Jaiswal has 2,543 runs, while KL Rahul has 2,265.
