Udupi: 8th Western Zone Police Duty Meet concludes in Manipal

Udupi, Sep 2: The valedictory ceremony of the 8th Western Zone Police Duty Meet was held at the Dr TMA Pai Auditorium, MAHE, Manipal, on September 1.

Western Zone inspector general of police (DIG) Chetan R, IPS, presided over the ceremony. Udupi district superintendent of police Hariram Shankar, MAHE pro chancellor Dr H S Ballal, senior law officer of the Mangaluru Zone K Shivaprasad Alva, deputy director of the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Mangaluru, Kumari Sujatha K M, and MAHE’s Dr Anil Bhat and Dr Vinod C Nayak were among those present.

The police duty meet, which commenced on August 31, featured competitions across 20 categories, including eight categories in scientific aids to investigation, three in computer proficiency, photography, videography, four categories related to detection of explosive activities, and three categories in the police dog squad.

Skilled police officers and personnel from Mangaluru City, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts participated in the competitions.

Udupi district emerged as the overall champions after securing the highest number of medals. The Udupi police dog Sniper won the award for the Best Police Dog, while its handler, Harish Shetty, received the honour.

Addressing the gathering, DIG Chetan R congratulated the winners and wished them success at the state and national levels. He stressed the need for police personnel to adopt scientific methods in investigation while carrying out their day-to-day duties, improve conviction rates and work towards ensuring justice for victims.

The special invitees also congratulated the winners and wished them success in the state and national-level competitions.

Police Inspector Somashankar N welcomed the gathering, while police personnel Shivananada compered the programme. The Udupi SP proposed the vote of thanks.

During the ceremony, Udupi DAR police personnel Lokesh, who had won a medal at the national-level competition last year, was felicitated.

Gaurish A C, nodal officer of the Western Zone Police Duty Meet, was also honoured by the Udupi district police for his efficient coordination and management of the event.
