Doha, Oct 7: The new committee members of Tulu Koota Qatar took the privilege of presenting their maiden programme, a skit called "Values of Indian National Flag" during the 66th Indian Independence Day celebration programme held at the Diplomatic Club here recently. Newly-appointed ambassador Sanjeev Arora was one of the dignitaries present on the occasion.
The skit was again presented in Dukhan owing to high demand by the Indian community who missed to witness the show, living in this oil-rich city, all working for Qatar Petroleum (QP).
A group of 23 artistes, all hailing from Mangalore without any prejudices of caste, age, religion contributed to the success of this programme which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The skit was scripted and directed by Rajshekar Bappal and the protagonist of the play was renowned stage artiste and long-time Doha resident Vivian D’Souza. He portrayed the role of an activist who narrates the history of Indian National Flag to young children when he finds them fighting for the flag. The skit was taken back into history from the design stage by Pingalli Venakayya and presented in the Indian Constitution by Nehru portrayed by another long-time Doha resident Mammunni,
The story leads through depicting the values of the colour and the freedom fighters such as Subhas Chandra Bose played by Vijay Rai, Jhansi ki Rani played by Supriya Bhat and Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Chandrashekar Azad played by Chandrashekar Shetty, Mohan Jeppinamogaru and Nitesh Kumar respectively.
While the colour white in the flag which initiated by Gandhiji during the design stage symbolizing peace, was again brought to live by Sudhir Kumar as Ghandhiji, Sudhir Naik and Priyanka as his followers, on the background the actual speech of Ghandhiji was heard which gave authenticity to the whole show.
The green was enhanced by a group of dancers played by Della Rego, Sushma and Sandesh for a patriotic song.
The show culminated with a message by the protagonist and then a huge cutout of Indian national flag was brought on stage and all the 23 artistes came back on stage with small Indian flags in their hands waving at the audience.
There has been a great demand to translate the script and present in Kannada language and also in other South Indian languages.
