Srinagar, Oct 12 (IANS): Most shops, business establishments and educational institutions were closed in Srinagar and other towns in the Kashmir Valley Friday as traders called for a strike against the cap on subsidised LPG and the hike in diesel prices.
Public transport was off the roads and there were only a few private vehicles plying.
Inter district connectivity was badly affected in the Valley with most vehicles off the roads, except on the Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Leh highways.
The Kashmir federation of traders had called for a Valley-wide shutdown against the LPG cap and the hike in the diesel prices. Many local organisations, including the Kashmir bar association, civil society and transporters, supported the call.
Work in government offices, banks and post offices was partially affected because many employees could not reach their places of work because of the non-availability of public transport.
