Dubai, Oct 13 : Naach Baila Naach, a unique baila dance contest for those above 28 years, organized by Mogachi Lahran troupe led by Vincent Fernandes Cascia concluded on a high note, with Lavina Fernandes and Jagannath bagging the first place by beating eight other couples who were in race.

The event was organized at JSS School Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road on Friday October 12 evening.

It was a spectacular beginning to the event, in a truly traditional Konkani style, with artistes and Mogachi Lahram troupe members arriving in a procession dressed in traditional attires. A tiger dance in traditional Tulu Nadu style followed.

Over 60 artistes were seen on a single stage along with nine baila dance semi-finalists.

Asha Correa, compere par excellence took charge of the event with a brief introduction of the event and the judges of the contest.

Shama Rani, Vinod Fernandes and Arun Lobo were the judges. Shobha Mendonca and John Monteiro were special judges.

After the first round of impressive dance performances by the nine couples, five were chosen for the finals - Ritesh and Silvy, Ernest and Reshma, Jagannath and Lavina, Vinay and Sandhya and Steevan and Metilda.

A non-stop live baila was performed by the singers, where the five couples had to dance spontaneously to prove their real talent as baila dancers.

Lavina Fernandes was declared the Baila Queen and Jagannath the Baila King. Ritesh and Silvy emerged first runners-up and Vinay - Sandhya pair were the second runners-up.

Earlier, Roshan D'Silva, who compered the most recent Gulf Voice of Mangalore Semi-finals, successfully handled the contest part with his unique and vibrant style and his usual wit and humour.

Vincent Fernandes, who has dedicated eight musical albums and several musical nites has come out with yet another audio album 'Naach Baila Naach'. The Volume 9 album was released during the event by Walter Nandalike of daijiworld.com in the presence of Mark Denis D'Souza, Herman Lewis, Joseph Mathias, Praveen Shetty, Harish Sherigar, James Mendonca along with Vincent Fernandes and Oswald D'Souza of Mogachi Lahran.

Addressing the gathering after the album release, Walter Nandalike said that Vincent Fernandes has been dedicating his valuable time for Konkani music and is shaping the new generation so that they do not go away from Konkani. Joseph Mathias and Denis D'Souza too wished Vincent the best for the future.

In between the contest, baila songs were presented by the artistes. Konkan Kalashree Claud D'Souza, specially flown in from Mangalore, entertained the audience with his hit baila songs. He was supported by local singers Vincent Fernandes, Ivan Fernandes, Dony Correa, Joseph Mathias, Alwyn Mendonca, Preema D'Souza, Asha Fernandes and Cresilla Rodrigues.

Ramiro Mascarenhas provided the music for the show along with his talented troupe members. Sri Lankan music director Tushar played Baila music as Monica Walder rendered Lankan Baila.

Harish Sherigar sang the Tulu song 'Mokeda Singari'.

'Pili Vesha' which conveyed the message of 'Save Tigers', was one of the highlights of the event.

Jagath Pal and his team presented skits.

Asha Correa was honoured by Mogachi Lahran troupe for her contribution to Konkani art. She is a rare Konkani stage artiste who has performed Kannada, Tulu and Konkani dramas in Dubai in the same year. She has also performed a Yakshagana role in Dubai. Apart from acting is a leading female compere and a good singer. Mogachi Lahran honoured her in recognition of her vast and versatile talent. In the past, the troupe had honoured Ratan Castelino and Preema.

The programme came to and end at around 11 pm after the presentation of awards to the winners. Walter Nandalike honoured the Baila King with memento, trophy and sash. Lavina was honoured by Shobha Mendonca. The couple walked away with Rs 45,000 cash prize.

First runners-up Ritesh and Silvy were honoured by Alfred D'Souza, Thottam. They were awarded a cash prize of Rs 30,000. Second runners-up bagged a cash prize of Rs 15,000.

Thank you all for your comments and support. This programme became a hit because of your presence.

Regarding the dances, we do appreciate your comments. All the finalists were professional and great dancers. However, we wish to clarify that the prize was given to the couple who performed the actual BAILA dance. The winning couple brought out the BAILA concept and hence the prize to them.

We once again thank each one of you for making this programme a great success.

A Perfect Friday Gift from Mogachin Lahran Troupe.A Unique Programme and I had never seen such a Wonderful , Sentimental , Rocking Opening.Directly taken me to Mangalore.A Perfect Example for Creativity.Kudos and a Big Salute to Vincent.

Having sid this I wanted to see Little More Pili Dance from Pili Vesha.Asha Correa was at her usual Best with Heart Touching Words but at times felt that Too fast may be for time Managment. My friend Roshan growing Pillar to Mountain with his superb presentation but a small suggestion he has to pick his jokes as per the Programme. The programmes Like this and GOVM was doesn't require any Jokes.Skit was not required and the Jokes presented were below the belt jokes.Organisers should take a Note of this. The Questions from Celebrety Judges were out of the Topics and uncalled for which made me to think whether I am in a Dance Competetion or Quiz Competetion.Whatever may be the reasons from Organizers under the sun but its as simple as You will not get a Non Vegetarian Meal in Brahmin Hotel and You will not find only Non Veg in a Non Vegetarian Hotel.

Singing of the songs of the CD which was just released was not required.By doing so the organisers had broke the flow of the Programme. If the Programme was gone on same style No public would have gone back before declaring the Winners.

My Friend Walter's Reply was timely for the audience who were creating nuisance in the auditorium. We all now come to Know " Walty Ko Gussa Kyon Atha Hai ".

Finally while wishing all the best to all the d winners , as majority of the readers mentioned , Not convinced with the result. For me the Real winners are " Jodi No 1 " .Somewhat I felt judges are not under control of the Competetion. All we can clearly read the uneasiness of the Judges during their Comments.

Hope organisers will make a Note of their Shortcomings and will Comeout with Flying Colours Next Time.

    All the Very Best........

Even winner did their best but second runner up and 3rd deserved to be top. Vincey program was really good ...we enjoyed the brass band. good concept.

Fantastic Show & hats off to the organisers... however the judgment was very partial... and i feel the reason was very simple... Lavina is a very active member of the troupe and judges were favouring her... Lavina & Jagannath were very good and have no fault in what happened to the results.. However RITESH PENHA & SILVY PENHA were much better than them & are the real winners for the audience... Favoutism was seen during Gulf Voice of Mangalore too... Hope judgement errors or Favourtism are corrected in all future events... All the best!

What best I liked was Walter Nandalike's instant master piece dialogue 'Gumpinalli Govinda' to one of the  Trouble makers among the audience.

Trouble makers  must learn from his dialogue. When some one putting so much efforts to organise a programe, we must appreciate, otherwise atleast keep quite. But do not disturb and insult the organisers. My humble appeal to all audience, please maintain dignity. It was well conducted show on Friday evening

Good programme, good music and very entertaining. However, the dance result were unfair. The standards of Baila has been reduced to very low levels by wrong ion of king & queen. The Dancers in yellow are professionals and thats where the Baila mark has to be maintained for generations to come. This Judgement only reflects anyone with two left feet can win first place...!!

It was an expectacular event, great performers and a very entertaining show. I have nothing against any of the participants though, but i have seen an unfair judgement in the dance competition. perfect timing and gracefulness is visibly seen on the 2nd placers, which obviously could have taken 1st place or the BAILA KING & QUEEN. Anyhow, congratulations to everyone!

Dear Vincent and Mogachi Lahran Troupe, Hats-off to you all. A simple but creative stage setting of the stage. An unique program of 2012. Three set-ups in one stage. Full pledge band by Ramiro group kept rocking the audience, Dance by the kids, Singing. Each and every one has contributed his/her responsibility in right way. MC Roshan and Asha Correa have done marvelous job. Well controlled time keeping. Mr. Walter, daiji editor in chief has reverted a super shot response to some (One) of the audience creating nuisance in the auditorium.
In total, fair judgment and second musical Friday evening after Gulf voice of Mangalore.
One suggestion: there shall be one responsible person on the stage from sound system to maintain/arranging Microphones to the stage participants
