Bantwal, Feb 20: The Public Education Department on Monday February 18, under the aegis of JCI Bantwal, Area Education officer office, Area Resource Center and with the assistance of Chataniya Foundation held ‘Prahar-2013’, a preface movement to create awareness among the students about narcotic drugs.
 
The recent death of the young girl who died due to the consumption of narcotic drugs stunned the entire district and this has led the education department to become more cautious and save the innocent from this drug menace by creating the awareness among the students. The word ‘Prahari’ means ‘protector’.

This programme started on Monday and will go on till Saturday February 23. Many awareness programmes will be organized throughout the week.

Information campaigns on how the individual gets addicted to drugs and prevention, dangers of smoking and its prevention, child trafficking and its prevention, child crime and its prevention, will be held in different schools. On Saturday, more than 1,200 students, various department chiefs, NGO and self-help group members will take an oath.

Lalitha Shivappa Nayak, Bantwal taluk panchayat president symbolically inaugurated Prahari-2013 by releasing pamphlets at Tumbe BA Educational Institution on Monday. After the inauguration, she said that awareness about drugs should be created in every home and it will help clean society.

Area Education officer K Sudhakar and Bantwal JCI  president Sandeep Salian expressed their views. Sanghabettu gram panchayat president Susheel, Maani gram panchayat president Ramani and education department officers were present on the stage. BA College principal Ganghadhar Alva welcomed, high school headmaster Shrinivas thanked, teacher B Ramachandra Rao compered. On this occasion, JCI assisted information handouts were distributed for 381 schools.
