New Delhi, Feb 28 (IANS): Designer Nida Mahmood, known for her flair for creative and dramatic creations, will showcase an amalgamation of textiles from various regions of the country at the autumn-winter edition of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW), starting March 13.

"The collection is a melange of textiles from various regions of India. Beautiful weaves from Narayanpet in Andhra Pradesh, rich tussars from Bhagalpur, exotic silks and some modern fabrics form the backbone of the collection," Mahmood told IANS.

The designer has also used "modern interpretation" of various old-age techniques.

"Techniques used are Kantha from Bengal, Daboo printing from Rajasthan and some modern interpretations of these techniques garnished with the quirks of India. Prints take an interesting turn marrying the softness of Indian imagery in a steampunk fashion," she added.

Her line is called "The Adventures of Capt. Must! Qalandar". Sharing the idea behind the unique name, Mahmood said "the collection revolves around the traveler who travels through time and space on his time machine called VDO GAGA".

"Capt. Must! Qalandar is a very interesting character, also the muse for the season. He is a motorised flying ant, who is the re-incarnation of an old vintage bike. The collection revolves around the adventures he has traveling around on VDO GAGA (a special installation of which will be unveiled at WIFW)," she said.

The silhouettes will comprise biker jackets, slouchy pants in various silhouttes, easy shirts and bohemian tops, loose kurtas and dresses.

The designer has used different varieties of silk, georgette and handloom textiles in shades of blue, green, orange, yellow, grey and red.
