Mangalore, May 10: “This time people have taught a good lesson to BJP. Once again Congress has gained back its strong fort in coastal district. People have realized the false assurance of BJP during its rule. People had clearly should sign of BJP’s defeat in ULB poll itself. This victory of Congress party is a verdict by the people, Congress has long history. In the name of Hindhuthva BJP polarized the society, segregated people. Even in Dattapita issue they did politics and never allowed devotees to perform Padapooja,” said former mayor Ashraf.

He was addressing the press meet held in district congress office here on Thursday May 9.

“To divide Muslim vote BJP supported SDPI; Muslims of coastal region are intelligent. They are against and will never support SDPI, KFD or PFI. So I thank all representatives, corporators, party workers who worked for the victory. I also thank Janardhana Poojary for his effort,” he added.

“This time people in the coastal district have opted for Congress with a record compared to previous years. BJP failed to uphold the communal harmony in the district. During its rule there were several conflicts in the society like moral policing, Church attack, homestay attack and so on. But in future we will surely stop the moral policing. Even Yogish Bhat should support JR Lobo. On this occasion I thank Janardhana Poojary, Oscar Fernandez, Veerappa Moily for their support,” said Ivan D’Souza.

“Congress will give importance to overall development of the city. Even this time intellectuals like doctors, engineers, lawyers supported us,” said Kallige Tharnatha Shetty.

Ashith Perira, Nazir Bajjal, Shashidhar, Santhosh were present on the occasion.
