Producers, actors don't like my voice anymore, says Shaan

Mumbai, Jun 1 (PTI): With the new crop of playback singers on the music scene, there is very less we get to hear from Shaan and he says it is the producers and composers who are no longer interested to have his voice in their projects.

The singer has churned out hits like 'Koi Kahein Kehta Raahein' from 'Dil Chahta Hai', 'Chaand Sifarish' from 'Fanaa', 'Jab se tere Naina' from 'Saawariya', 'Behti Hawa Sa' from '3 Idiots'. But now his songs and offers are dwindling.

"It is about offers. It is not that I am choosy or have increased my budget. If people are not calling me then what to do. May be people still like my voice but producers, actors or music directors don't like it (voice) any more. May be my voice is not suitable for the kind of songs that are coming out today," Shaan told PTI.

The 41-year-old says he has always been co-operative and never had difficulty in terms of money matters. The singer seems dishearten but hopes to get good work.
"The fact is there is a lot in me as a singer even today. And lot of songs have fallen short because of the kind of voices who have sung it. Today the kind of choices that are made (of singers) makes the life of song shorter," Shaan said.

According to him, people today try to alter or tweak things (voice) electronically but voice has its own beauty.

"Among the kind of voices that are there today I feel, I have a better voice and also more tuneful. I fail to understand why no one realises this," he said.

Shaan will be seen in 'Jhalak Dikhla Jaa', showing his dancing skills.

Reshmiji sahi farmaya aapne. Lagta hai woh kuch vasooli ki baat kar raha hai. Ajith Bhai, tumhari baat sahi ho sakti hai agar Shaan saab actor hote. Waise tho public jawaan aur budde me koi farak nahi dekthi hai, bas, kaam karne ki taakhat mangta hai.

Gerald Modankap you are 100% right, one such singer who is so famous in India seems to have been pulled straight from the bathroom and he makes sure to always sing slightly off the ‘sur’. But chalta hai, the public is happy with it.
