Mangalore, Jan 7: The Karnataka State Minority Commission will hold its first district-level awareness programme for minorities programme in DK district on Jan 16. Briefing the same to the media on Friday, commission state chairman K S Mohammed Masood said that the one-day programme, with the objectives of imparting information on the various facilities for the minorities allotted by the government, will be held at the town hall.
 
As the minority groups including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists and Parsis who do not have adequate knowledge about the commission, this, Masood said, was one of the primary objectives of the awareness campaigns. Further, there are numerous schemes of the government offering special facilities for the people from minority communities that remains untapped. The awareness programmes will educate the people on availing the benefits of the various schemes.

Stating a few, Masood said that financial assistance is given by the State minority directorate council and the Wakf council for Shadi Mahal and Shopping complex, facilities are offered through schemes for women and child welfare, Stree Shakti, monthly financial assistance for the disabled, medical relief fund and so on.

The government officers from all concerned departments will be present at the programme, Masood informed.

He added that imparting information on protection of the rights of the minority communities is also an objective of the programme.
