Mangalore Jan 8: A true visualization of the impact, which Daijiworld has created within a short span of five years, was the jam-packed audience in the Milagres conference hall on Saturday January 7 evening. An atmosphere of jubilation and fellowship marked the entry of Daijiworld into its sixth year after having cut across the boundaries of journalism over the last five years.

In his address, the inaugurator of the programme Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore recalled his first encounter with the impact of Daijiworld where the new transfers of the priests of the diocese were first disseminated by the web portal. “Here is someone who is bringing Mangalore closer to the thousands of Mangaloreans spread across the world. The website over the years is the only reliable means to tell the rest of the world as what is happening in and around Mangalore.

Many ventures started with good intentions fail, but Daijiworld has lived for five years and has flourished. This means that the endeavor of Daijiworld has been liked and loved by people, he added. Giving an insight into the activities of the diocese of Manglaore to the rest of the world is only done by Daijiworld, the bishop informed. Lauding the standards maintained by the website, he also had words of caution not to fall a prey to cheap journalism but the give right information. Dini Dini Set to Carve a Niche in International Music: Director of Ryan International Schools, Mumbai Grace Pinto, released ‘Dini Dini’ the music album waiting to make an international appearance. The music album with lyrics by noted poet Melvyn Rodrigues and music directed by Alwyn Fernandes has to its credit of having involved well known Bollywood playback singers like Vasundhara Das, Sunidhi Chauhan and Soumya Raoh.

Speaking on the occasion Melvyn credited the success of the venture to its music director Alwyn Fernandes. Titus Noronha introduced the music album Dini Dini.

'Bindas' released: A compilation of the articles published regularly in one of Daijiworld.com's Konkani columns 'Bindaas' written by well-known Konkani writer, Stan Ageira, Mulki also saw the light of the day on Saturday. Published in print format by Daijiworld.com, the book was released during the event by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Eric Ozario.  Victor Mathias (Victory Karkal) shouldered the responsibly of introducing the books.

Crowning of Miss Daijiworld: The much-awaited part of the fifth year celebration was the crowning of the Miss Daijiworld. Nineteen-year-old Melita Pinto, the daughter of Matilda and Joel Pinto of Balmata Medicals, who bagged the title Miss Daijiworld. She was crowned by Lavita Monteiro. The photogenic beauty contest, organized by Daijiworld.com and sponsored by Pune's leading fashion designer 'Boutique de Creations' also offered a cash award of Rs 25,000 to Melita. The Third Runner-up slot winner Nisha Shetty was also honoured. The prizes of the other runners up of the contest were received by thier respective representatives in city.

The constellation of guests who adorned the dais included Magnum Intergrafiks chairman Sudhir Ghate. Speaking on the enterprising Walter Nandalike, Ghate said that while the all efforts are to reach countries, Walter has been competing with the world. The great strides made by the web portal must be utilized well by education institutions and business entities, he said.

Surprise honour to Walter Nandalike from IInternational Orientation Centre: It came as a total surprise to Walter Nandalike who was conferred the annual achievement award instituted by the International Orientation Centre, promoted by Max Rasquinha, originally hailing from Mangalore, and currently based in Houston, Texas, USA. It was Max who first founded the Toastmasters Club in Mangalore and quite fittingly Molly Chaudhuri of the Toastmasters Club presented the trophy and citation on Max's behalf during the event.


Honour to Daijiworld’s proud band of correspondents: Giving each his/her due, Walter Nandalike honoured the committed band of correspondents of Daijiworld. Each of the correspondents present on the occasion was honoured -a gesture of gratitude to their tireless efforts it bringing Daijiworld to such great heights. Daijiworld resident editor Richard Lasrado called out their names and the dignitaries on the stage presented them with bouquets.

Concepta Fernandes-Alva of All India Radio Mangalore led the audience through the programme with her lively and eloquent compering.
