Mumbai, Jul 2 (IANS): The mysteries of the Arctic region of Canada will be revealed to visitors at a five-day international exhibition of photographs organised by the Canadian consulate here, starting Wednesday, an official said.

Starting two days after Canada Day which was celebrated Monday, the exhibition "Accessible Arctic", with the images assembled and curated by the Canadian Museum of Nature, will be held at High Street Phoenix (earlier known as Phoenix Mills).

"The Arctic, to many, is a distant and mysterious place. We are excited to bring the landscapes and the incredible people of the North closer to Mumbaikars," Consul-General of Canada in Mumbai Richard Bale said.

The timing of the exhibition coincides with India's newly-granted observer status at the Arctic Council, chaired by Canada, recognising this country's demonstrated Arctic interests and expertise, Bale said.

Property of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society, the picture exhibition features a cross-section of photographers who have contributed to the Canadian Geographic.

The collection which will go on display July 3-7 here will have pictures ranging from flowers to fields of grazing caribou, icebergs, polar bears and other topics which provide an insight into the extreme and distant land of Arctic.

Earlier, the exhibition travelled to London, Belgium, Stockholm, Port of Spain, Riga (Latvia), Warsaw, Sydney, Berlin, Bucharest, Wellington, Santo Domingo, Washington, D.C., and Seoul, among others.

India and Canada enjoy long-standing bilateral relations. The Indian diaspora in Canada is over one million strong.
