Agency report

Faisalabad (Pakistan), Jan 21: The Indian team management took a bold decision on Saturday to drop former skipper Sourav Ganguly from the squad for the second cricket Test against Pakistan.

Indian skipper Rahul Dravid said Ganguly was "unlucky" to miss out since the team management decided to go into the match with five seamers.

However, the decision was probably a little harsh on India's most successful captain, who had led his team to a historic Test win in Pakistan in 2004.

Although Ganguly was included in the team for the first Test in Lahore, he did not get a chance to bat in the drawn encounter. He also got to bowl just six overs in the weather-hit match.

Ganguly's exclusion may have to do with the fact that Yuvraj Singh has been in good form and also that the team needed five specialist bowlers to take 20 wickets on a deceptive track at the Iqbal Stadium here.

Whatever the reasons, Ganguly's ouster from the squad is bound to rake up another controversy, something which India need the least as they eye a repeat of their 2004 success against their arch-rivals.

Replacing Ganguly in the squad was 20-year-old rookie left-arm paceman R P Singh, who has eleven wickets from eight one-dayers he has played so far.
