Mangalore, Jan 26: The police have reported a case of an unsuccessful attempt by Sunil Vincent Fernandes, who is a co-accused in the killing of Anna Monis in Bajpe two and a half years ago, to escape from police custody while being brought out of court after hearing on Wednesday evening.
Sunil was a student of a city college when he was involved in the murder on June 26, 2003. He has been accused of helping the main accused Roshan Noel D'Souza, who died of illness while in jail. Both Sunil and Roshan had been arrested by the police in Bangalore on July 19, 2003.
Sunil was being brought out of the court, guarded by four constables. He is said to have jumped from a height of 30ft and tried to escape through the parking area. Head constable Karunakar is said to have taken a grea risk and jumped 30ft below and managed to chase Sunil and catch him.
