Udupi, Jan 28: In another ghastly accident at Saligram on the National Highway 17 near Brahmavar here on Saturday January 28 morning, one person was killed on the spot while the other was injured seriously.

The accident is said to have taken place at 5 in the morning.  A tempo carrying grapes, was on its way to Mangalore from Bijapur, when it rammed into a tree beside the National Highway 17close to Guru Narasimha Temple of Saligram near Brahmavar here.  Only the driver and the cleaner were on the tempo at the time of the accident.

The impact of the accident was such that the cleaner died on the spot and the driver fractured his hands and legs.  Since the accident took place early in the morning, there was no one around to rescue them.  However, the injured driver pulled himself along the way to reach a close by house.

But the cleaner had already died after being struck between the tree and the tempo. It was only after strenuous efforts by the Kota police and localites that his body was removed from the tempo.  The injured driver has now been admitted to Mahesh Hospital at Brahmavar.

Since the driver and cleaner are both from Bijapur, more details are not yet available about them. Some late reports said that the drivers' name is Suresh.  However, it is yet to be confirmed.

The Kota police have registered a case in this regard.
