NCR Transport Corp to develop three corridors


New Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS): An agreement was signed Friday to set up a National Capital Region Transport Corp (NCRTC) to improve connectivity between Delhi and cities in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

NCRTC will develop three Rapid Regional Transit System (RRTS) corridors at a cost of Rs.72,000 crore: Delhi-Gurgaon-Alwar, Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut and Delhi-Panipat.

"A reliable, safe, comfortable and affordable transportation system will help to provide better job and livelihood opportunities to the people of the region," Sudhir Krishna, secretary in the urban development ministry, said here.

He said these corridors were likely to built in five years.

The corporation will have a share capital of Rs.100 crore, with the central and respective state governments having a ratio of 50:50. The pact Thursday was signed by the central government and the states.
