Mangalore, Feb 1: A team of 34 Mizos (natives of Mizoram) who were in the city for 6 days as part of cultural exchange programme under the aegis of Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), were surprised by the warm hospitality they received during their stay in the city.
Being far away from their homes in the North East, the youngsters are enjoying their every moment here and even confided that they would like to stay here for long. They were of the opinion that the people here in the city are very hospitable, loving and caring. Some of them even said that they felt very much at home with the warm accord they received wherever they went.
The team is presently stationed at Sasihitlu near Suratkal here. The residents of the Sasihitlu while speaking to this correspondent said that their village has turned colourful with the activities of the Mizos for the last 6 days, who have come from Lundlei district of Mizoram.
For 34 Mizo boys and girls, the environment of the city is quite new. For them the experience of coastal sands and sea at Sasihitlu is the first of its kind. There are 14 girls led by Patricia L Hmar and 20 boys led by Laltanpuia.
During their stay, they have visited nearby families other than presenting cultural shows at Sasihitlu and Nitte. They entertained the audience by their traditional chheilam, solakia and Cheraw (bamboo dance) dances. They were seen showing keen interest in knowing and learning about the culture and lifestyles while sharing their own with the residents here.
