Press Release

Mangalore, Feb 13: The undivided district  heading towards an integral development in a very fast pace in view of the anticipated huge investment it is attracting in the light of establishment of the proposed Multi-Product General Purpose Special Economic Zone and other mega projects.

The government has already taken up needed infrastructural projects in line with the developments taking place in this region in order to cope up with the anticipated and assured commissioning of the operation of the Broad Gauge Bangalore-Mangalore Railway Line in March 2006 and full capacity utilization of the New Mangalore Port.

In the light of these developmental works already in place, Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has requested the union railway department to consider merger of Southern Railway Lines running between Thokur and Mangalore, which comprise Panambur and Kankanady – Mangalore junction stations, with the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd at the earliest.

In a letter written to R Velu, union minister of state for railways KCCI has also appealed the Railway Department for setting up of a Regional Office of the Konkan Railway Corporation at Mangalore as it would then become the last point of run of the Konkan Railway.
