Mangalore, Feb 14: An interactive session to provide a common platform to discuss the problems and possibilities of developing the New Mangalore Port, will be organized by the Mangalore Custom House Agents Association on Wednesday February 15, wherein there will be an interaction between the custom agents and the officials of the department of customs and NMPT.

This was announced by Philip C C, president of the association, at a press meet held on Monday February 13, here.

He said that owing to lack of efficient interaction between custom agents, NMPT and the customs department, many issues have been for long remained unattended to. Issues like non-utilization of the port by the exporters and importers of the state, will be discussed at the meeting.

He added that if some additional facilities were provided to the port, it could attract more cargo and also could be declared as an international port.

Senior officials of Southern Railway, Mangalore airport, central excise and representatives of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), have been invited to participate in the programme.  Tamil Vanan, chairman, NMPT, Jasdeep Singh, commissioner of customs and John Joseph, commissioners of central excise, will also be present during the interactive session.
