  • Fails in attempt to kill wife

Udupi, Feb 16: In what could be called a barbaric act, a father slit the throat of his own child and then tried to kill his wife who was on her family way at Kondady near Hiriadka near here on Wednesday February 15 night.

Chandrahas Shetty who owns a hotel at Thane in Maharashtra, had come to his native place by train and had got down at the Indrali railway station at 10 pm on Wednesday night, along with is wife Asha (25) and son Mithun (2).  Then he engaged a rickshaw to go to his home.  However, Asha who was born and brought up in Maharashtra, did not know as to where they were heading, since she was coming to the city for the first time.

Chandrahas then asked the rickshaw driver to stop the rickshaw near thick woods at Kondady.  He then slit the throat of his son Mithun with the knife he had brought, and even stabbed his wife.  As a result, Asha fell on the ground.  Thinking that she was dead, he fled the place.

Having recovered a bit, Asha went to a neighbouring house with all difficulties to ask for help.  But the house members refused to help Asha, presuming that she was a mentally retarded person.  But a localite who was passing by the way saw her and took her to KMC Hospital at Manipal.

She is now fighting for life in the hospital.  However, Chandrahas Shetty has not yet been traced.  The Hiriadka police have registered the case and visited the place too.  The sniffer dogs too were summoned to the place.

Asha was on her family way for the second time.  Chandrahas had fallen in love with Asha and had married her three years ago.
