Udupi, Feb 19: Former president of the Bunts Alias Nadavara Matr Sangha Satishchandra Hegde (69) died as a result of liver infection at a hospital in Bangalore on Saturday, February 18. A resident of Udupi Hegde was an excise contractor, a respectable social worker and a community leader.
Son of well-known contractor S Hiriyanna Hegde, Satishchandra became an excise contractor in 1969. He was also a member of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.
As the president of the School Betterment Committee, Satishchandra had endeavoured to develop the schools of Shiva. He was also instrumental in setting up the Shriva Sundar Ram Shetty College.
On being elected the president of the Bunts Alias Nadavara Matr Sangha, Satishchandra worked for the welfare of the association. It was during his tenure that several education institutes, hostels and marriage halls were built.
Hegde had adopted Pareeka village and contributed to its development.
He is survived by wife, a son, and a daughter.
The body of the deceased will be kept for public veneration at Ajjarkad and the final rites will be conducted at 12 noon.
