Mumbai, Feb 25: A married woman, who had allegedly consumed poison, embarrassed by her “pervert” husband circulating her “obscene” photos in the neighbourhood, died at KEM Hospital on Wednesday.
According to Kapurbavdi police, Nandini Kajrolkar (32) had laced her vada-pav with poison on February 15. She was rushed to the Thane Civil Hospital and later, moved to the KEM. The case was initially registered as an accidental death. But the brother of the deceased, Vinayak Penkar, said Nandini had written a 10-page suicide note, alleging that her husband, Sandeep, a clerk at Vasai court, was a “pervert”. She wrote that he used to watch blue films and would ask her to enact the roles. Nandini said in her note that she had known of his “nature” long ago, but never dared to complain.
Sandeep also used to harass his wife mentally and physically for dowry, Penkar said. Nandini had complained to her parents about Sandeep’s demands. But they were scared of taking action against him as Sandeep had threatened them with dire consequences, saying he wielded tremendous influence as he was a court employee. Realising that his in-laws wouldn’t dare to object, Sandeep forced Nandini to pose for obscene photographs in front of their 12-year-old son, alleged Penkar.
Police said that Sandeep took the pictures with his cellphone camera and circulated them among his friends. Coming to know about it, Nandini decided to end her life.
Following a complaint filed by Penkar, Kapurbavdi police on February 22 arrested Sandeep’s father, Sadanand, mother Namrata and sister Vrishali N Rao. They were released on bail the same day. Meanwhile, Sandeep has applied for anticipatory bail.
The police said they would take action against Sandeep pending a report from the Bhoiwada police station in Vasai about his conduct in the court. NC Jadhav, senior police inspector of Kapurbavdi police station, is investigating the case.
