Mangalore: Sushma M Mally takes forward legacy of Abhiman Constructions

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Sep 19: Being in the construction industry for over 27 years Abhiman Constructions has experienced the volatility affecting the construction industry from time to time. But the strong foundation on which the company has been built and grown, has made it a strong player in the construction field in Mangalore. The strong banner of Abhiman constructions, the good business ethics followed by the company, the growing list of satisfied customers, customers' confidence, quality construction and timely delivery have been the hallmark which has made Abhiman Constructions one of the leading construction firms in and around Mangalore.

Abnhiman Constructions which was established in 1986 has so far 31 completed residential and commercial projects to its credit. This indeed speaks volumes of the company’s reputation, which has grown leaps and bound in the last 27 years. Moving with the changing times the company has now diversified its activities by making a foray into developing lay outs. Abhiman’s Green Lawns and Abhiman’s Pope lay-outs under the sister concern called “Abhiman Holdings” are among some of the lay-outs developed by the company. It can be firmly said that success has come searching for the company as it has been able to record good success in selling out the houses within a short span of launching them.

It goes to the growing reputation of Abhiman Constructions that it has also ventured into the hospitality industry by starting a new partnership firm – Abhiman Residency which is catering to the needs of the tourists. The main focus of Abhiman Residency is to ensure the comfort of the tourists and make them feel at home - a feeling of a home away from home.

Abhiman Constructions was the brainchild of the late K Manmohan Mally who began his stint in the real estate field by constructing independent houses, to begin with. Within a short period he was able to make a name and win the confidence of his clients largely due to his strict adherence to quality work and timely deliverance. Over the years he majored into a key player in the construction field and has succeeded in taking a firm footing. “Deliver what is promised, and do not promise what cannot be delivered” was the secret of his popularity as a builder.

The firm Abhiman constructions has completed 31 projects so far - five commercial and 25 residential apartments and one building of an educational institution in Mangalore. In addition to this, two more residential projects namely “Abhiman Hills” a 22-floor apartment and “Abhiman Texas”, a 19-floor residential apartment, are under construction. These apartments complexes together will have a total saleable super built-up area of about 3,70,000 sq ft to offer.

The late K Manmohan Mally, the proprietor of the firm Abhiman Constructions, had started a Hotel, by name “Hotel Abhiman Residency” in the heart of the city in a building called “Abhiman chambers” which was built by him in the year 2000. The Hotel has 60 rooms – 50 AC and 10 Non-AC rooms of good reputation having almost 70% occupancy as average per year. The vegetarian restaurant and the Non-Vegetarian restaurant housed in the same building are catering the clients with homely food with the hotel providing a homely atmosphere for the guests. The Hotel is accepted by the tourists as a pleasant place of stay, away from their homes.

This hotel was a partnership firm with wife Sushma M Mally holding 50% share. After Manmohan Mally’s unexpected demise it has now been re-constituted with Sushma M Mally and her son, Aditya Mally and daughter Medha Mally (minor), holding 60%, 20% & 20% (Profits) share respectively.

The late K Manmohan Mally, had also started a new firm called “Abhiman Holdings” as a proprietorship firm, which deals with buying land, converting it into residential layouts, and selling it after getting the approval from MUDA and other statutory authorities. So far, the company has launched three lay outs, which were sold out in record time.

It was unfortunate that when the business prospered fate struck a crucial blow in the form of a cruel tragedy which took away the precious life of Manmohan Mally in an accident. His sudden and untimely death was a big shock to the family, relatives, friends and also the staff, the workforce, investors and well-wishers. It took quite some time for his young wife with two young children, to come to terms with his death. But as they say the real strength of a person is demonstrated at the time of crisis, his wife Sushma Manmohan Mally, decided to take the cudgels in her hands on seeing the plight of the investors, customers and well-wishers. She did not want the customers who had invested their hard earned savings to suffer and shouldered the responsibility of completing the on-going projects especially Abhiman Hills and Abhiman Texas. There were also many other ongoing projects which were given a new lease of life after Sushma Mally took over the responsibility.

It was really a great task of challenge to her besides running the Hotel Business. With the cooperation and support of the ever-sincere and dedicated staff, Engineers, committed workforce and with the support and co-operation of the dealers and material suppliers, she showed to the world “Yes, I can do it”. Today, within a year of the gravest tragedy she faced, she has not only paid off all the over dues but also maintained a steady progress in the execution of the construction work of the firm as the sole Proprietrix of Abhiman Constructions. The assets of the Abhiman Group consisting of three firms viz., Abhiman Constructions, Abhiman Holdings and Hotel Abhiman Residency are successfully managed by her.

In less than a year of taking over the responsibility of running a multi-crore construction business, Sushma Manmohan Mally has demonstrated that she has the expertise, business acumen, the knowledge, the managerial skills, the confidence and the burning desire to excel. Sushma wants to fulfill the unfinished dreams of her husband. She feels that continuing the work he has begun in the construction field is the best way to keep his memories alive and that is what the gritty Sushma Manmohan Mally has been doing – keeping the pennant of Abhiman Constructions flying high.

    Mrs. Sushma Malli

You have done a great Job by taking up the responsibilities under a very difficult situation and proving a successful business women. We are all proud of your achievements and success. Perhaps the greatest concern for women in the workforce is how to balance work and family life.

In order to succeed, we need persistence. We need to fall on our face, then get back up and try again. Success doesn't come easy, it takes consistency and determination.

Being a successful business woman means we have to constantly push yourself beyond your comfort zone, take risks and be fearless in pursuit of our goals. Each individual success will increase your confidence and encourage you to strive for more. Even when things don't go as planned, remember that it's not the end of the world and you can do better next time round. Be strong, confident and brave and you will soon reap the rewards. Don't be afraid to admit that you don't know everything. It is important to know where your weaknesses lie and to constantly seek to improve them. Even when you are confident in your abilities, you should always seek to boost your skills. The capacity to handle criticism and grow from it is a very important aspect of success. In order to reach the top, you need to be passionate about what you do.

Having confidence in yourself and your abilities is essential in becoming a successful businesswoman. People will view you as you portray yourself. If you project confidence, people will believe that you are confident.
