Moodbidri, Mar 27: The graduation day of medical, paramedical and other colleges of Alva's Education Foundation was held at a grand function on Sunday March 26 evening at Sundari Anand Alva Campus, Vidyagiri here.

State higher education minister D H Shankarmurthy presided over the function. State medical education and animal husbandry minister Dr V S Acharya who was the chief guest of the programme awarded degrees to 155 students of Ayurveda, Nursing, Medical Lab Technology and Physiotherapy disciplines which are affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

Another 158 students of MSW and first grade colleges of Alva's Education Foundation which have been affiliated to Mangalore University were awarded degrees in their respective disciplines by varsity vice chancellor Prof K M Kaveriappa.

Former minister and JD (S) leader Amarnath Shetty, MLA Abhayachandra Jain were the guest of honour on the occasion. Trustees of Alva's Education Foundation Ravindranath Shetty, Jayashree Amarnath Shetty and principles of various colleges were also present on the dais.

Dr Mohan Alva, president of the Alva's Education Foundation welcomed the gathering and Prof C N Madhyastha, administrative officer proposed the vote of thanks.  Devikarani compered the programme.

Moodbidri: "We have a lot of opportunities at our disposal for the professionals, which are needed to go the field with a new spirit. We have a mission to excel in education by 2020 in the global competition of professionals," said state minister for higher education D H Shankaramurthy at the Alvas colleges' graduation ceremony on Sunday, held in the open-air theatre in Vidyagiri here. He said so while presiding over the function.

State minister for medical education and animal husbandry Dr V S Acharya said that just as Kashi was not only a piligrimage centre but also a centre of education, Moodbidri too had been a pilgrimage centre known as Jain Kashi, which was now developing into a centre of education - Jnana Kashi - also, because of the efforts of Dr M Mohan Alva. He further said that education was developing horizontally, but it had to go vertically also, namely in terms of quality.

Mangalore university vice chancellor Prof K M Kaveriappa, as guest of honour, said that the general degrees were leading the youth only into the unemployed sector. It is here that the professional education had to ensure that similar situation would not be faced by the students of this sector.

Graduation certificates were presented to 115 students of 6 colleges. It is a matter of credit to the Alva's institutions that six ranks have been bagged by them.

Other guests of honour, MLA Abhayachandra Jain and former minister Amaranath Shetty also spoke on the occasion and complimented the students on their performance. Principals of six colleges were on the dais.

Alva's Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva welcomed the gathering, while Dr N Madhyastha proposed a vote of thanks. Devikarani compered the function
