Mysore, Mar 28:  In a heart-rending incident, four boys met their watery grave yesterday and their bodies were fished out of Lingambudhi Lake here this morning.

The deceased are identified as Vikas (10) and Gurupreeth Singh (16) from Hubli and Jagadish Patel (11), son of Sujaram Patel, and Shivakumar (11), son of late Venkatesh from Kuvempunagar 'M' Block here.

According to Police, the bodies of Vikas and Gurupreeth Singh were found floating in the Lake at around 8.30 am. On receiving information, the Police summoned expert divers after two other parents of Kuvempunagar complained about their missing children.

The divers removed the bodies of Jagadish Patel and Shivakumar after a search for nearly two hours.

Deputy Commissioner of Police K.T. Balakrishna, ACP Krishnamurthy and Kuvempunagar Inspector Shanthamallappa visited the spot.

Zilla Panchayat Vice-President K. Marigowda, who also visited the spot, was seen consoling the parents and relatives of the deceased.

According to sources Vikas, son of Eshwar Thakur from Hubli, had arrived in city yesterday morning for summer vacation along with his parents and friend Gurupreeth Singh and was staying with his grandfather K. Narayan Rao on 4th Cross of Vivekanandanagar.

Gurupreeth Singh was the son of Manohar Singh who resides on the 1st Floor of the house of Eshwar Thakur in Nehru Nagar in Hubli.

Parents of Vikas told the Police that the two children left the house yesterday at around 1.30 pm on a bicycle after lunch. It caused anxiety among the parents when the children did not return in the evening. They searched for them in the houses of their relatives throughout the night but in vain.

Jagadish Patel and Shivakumar, who were the 4th standard students of MSVK School in Vivekananda Circle, left their houses at 8 am yesterday to attend an examination. It appears, they went for a swim after the examination when they befriended Vikas and Gurupreeth, who too had come for a swim at Lingambudhi Lake.

Sujaram Patel lodged a complaint with the Kuvempunagar Police about his missing son at around 8.30 last night.

Bharathi, mother of Shivakumar, however, did not approach the Police hoping that her son may return the next morning.

The post-mortem of the four bodies was conducted at the mortuary of K.R. Hospital around noon today.

Eshwar Thakur, a civil engineer in Hubli, told Star of Mysore that Gurupreeth's father Manohar Singh, a businessman, was on his way to Mysore to collect his son's body.
