Mangalore, Apr 8: In their continued operation against the inter-state vehicle lifters, the city police have achieved another breakthrough by arresting one Ali Mohammad alias Mohammad Ali, a resident of Kapikad on Friday April 7.

He was arrested in Suratkal.  As per the information given by him, the police then seized 6 more cars.  Accordingly, the police have arrested 5 persons and seized 10 cars so far in this regard.

He was being hunted for long by the Pandeshwar police with regard to the same case.  However, he had managed to escape till the police arrested him on Friday at Suratkal while he was on his way to Goa.

The police seized Mahindra Pick Up, Scorpio, Maruti Zen, Maruti Omni and 2 Maruti 800 cars later.  Earlier the police had also seized 2 Qualis cars, a Tata Safari and a Maruti 800 car from his accomplices.

The police stated that it is an inter-state vehicle theft case.  Mohammad Ali is the linchpin of this racket.  After stealing the vehicles, they used to sell them mostly in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.  More than 25 cars, Eicher and 407 tempos to Pune also.

Mohammad Ali is also said to have stolen a JCB and sold it. 

The police said that the total value of the seized vehicles is Rs 50 lac.  The Pandeshwar police are investigating the case.
