Mangalore, Apr 10: In a disturbing trend, a study made by the Link De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre here has found out that there is alarming rise in use of drugs, tobacco and alcohol among the high school and pre-university students in Mangalore.

The survey report claims that 20.11 per cent of boys and 4.53 per cent of girls are afflicted by drugs, alcoholism and smoking tobacco. The survey was conducted on a sample of 2,852 students. According to the study, 26.60 per cent of the boys and 10.33 per cent of the girls had tasted alcohol. Of these, 11.17 per cent of them use alcohol regularly. With reference to drug abuse, it was found that 6.31 per cent of the boys and 1.18 per cent of the girls were affected. Peer pressure made 43.34 per cent to take to drugs.
