Mangalore, Apr 17: (8-00 pm): Respectable Jain community leader and one-time MLA from Brahmavar, Shirtady Dharma Samrajya (87) passed away in a private nursing home here on Monday evening.
He was MLA for a term between 1962-67 in then Mysore legislative assembly.
He was a prominent Congress leader, with a short break into the Reddy Congress.
He had served as Taluk Board president, Land Bank president and was office-bearer in various organizations during his active days.
He had played an important role during the Mastakabhisheka ceremony of Shri Bahubail statues in Venur and Karkala.
During the time of the earlier revenue set-up, he had served as "Patel" of the village.
He is survived by two sons and two daughters.
