Mangalore, Apr 18: "Culture is not like stagnant water but a vibrant movement. So cultural programmes should focus on depicting culture in its glorious form rather than presenting it as a dead movement. The traditions and celebrations of certain community or certain people could well be presented during the celebrations of other communities. If someone objects this, then it is wrong. However, the person or the group who presents such cultural programmes should bear in mind that in no way they are supposed interpret and dilute the originality of it," said noted folklore artiste Ramesh Kalmadi.
He was speaking after being honoured by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy on Monday April 17 evening at the Tulu Academy chavadi.
Ramesh Kalmadi and senior playwright Laxman Kumar Mallur were honoured by Tulu academy for their yeoman's service to the cause of Tulu.
Earlier a dialogue with these two stalwarts was organized in the academy premises. Tulu academy president Sitaram Kulal presided over the programme. Bhuvanabhiram Udupa, editor of Yugapurusha magazine of Kinnigoli and Dr Vaman Nandavar, former president of the Tulu Sahitya Academy were the chief guests on the occasion. Bhuvanabhiram Udupa released 38th edition of "Madipu", a quarterly newsletter published by Tulu academy.
Academy member Dr Gananath Yekkar welcomed the gathering and registrar Dr Duggappa Kajekar proposed vote of thanks. Jayanti S Bangera and Sarojini Shetty introduced Ramesh Kalmadi and Laxman Kumar Mallur to the gathering.
Dr Vasant Bharadwaj Kabbinale compered the programme.
