Cold weather eases in the Valley

Srinagar, Dec 7 (IANS): Cold weather conditions across the Kashmir Valley eased Saturday and the night temperature here rose above the freezing point.

The weather office has forecast light snowfall in the higher reaches of the Valley and rain in the plains during the next 48 hours.

"There has been respite in cold wave conditions in the Valley because of the night temperatures rising above the freezing point by a few notches yesterday (Friday) and today (Saturday).

"The minimum temperature was 0.9 degrees Celsius in Srinagar today, it was 0.3 degrees in Gulmarg, minus 0.8 in Pahalgam.

"In Leh town, the night temperature was minus 8.5 degrees today while it was minus 5.8 degrees in Kargil town of Ladakh region.

"In Jammu city, the night temperature was 9.8 degrees Celsius today.

"At all the places in Jammu and Kashmir, the night temperatures have risen by a few notches during the last two days. This has eased the cold wave conditions, but after two days, the night temperatures are again expected to drop as weather would remain dry," an official of the Met department told IANS.
