Government says it is sincere on Lokpal bill

New Delhi, Dec 11 (IANS): The government is taking "sincere steps" to pass the Lokpal bill but the opposition is not letting parliament to function, Minister of State V. Narayanasamy said Wednesday.

"The government is taking all sincere steps to pass the Lokpal bill. I have given a notice to the chairman of the Rajya Sabha for taking up the bill... The government is ready to debate and discuss it," the minister in the Prime Minister's Office said.

"But the house has to run (for passing the bill) because unfortunately the opposition parties are stalling the proceedings," he said.

He added the government was giving "top priority" to the bill.

Gandhian activist Anna Hazare is on an indefinite fast in his village Ralegan Siddhi in Maharashtra demanding the passing of the anti-corruption bill.
