Syria condemns Beirut bombing

Damascus, Jan 3 (IANS): Syrian government has condemned the blast that rocked the Lebanese capital of Beirut Thursday,

Criticising the blast, Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi termed the act as "a terrorist act condemned by all standards", Xinhua reported.

The minister pointed out that the war against terrorism is the duty of all countries in the world, and that the perpetrators of terrorism and the regimes supporting them must be held accountable.

At least four people were killed and over 60 injured in a booby trapped car that exploded Thursday afternoon in the Bir El Abd neighbourhood in the suburbs of Beirut.

Observers believe that the violence in Lebanon is a result of the spillover effect of the long-running Syrian crisis.
