New Delhi, May 6: Toughening its stand against the handing over of Mumbai and Delhi airports to private parties, AAI Employees Joint Forum has asked for withholding the transfer till the tripartite committee comprising employees, AAI and the government submitted its report.

In a letter to Airports Authority of India Chairman K Ramalingam, AAI Employees Joint Forum Convenor M K Ghoshal said the transfer of Delhi and Mumbai airports to GMR and GVK respectively on April 4, 2006 was in clear violation of the tripartite committee constituted by the government on March 29 this year.

The Committee was constituted by the government to look into the issues and proposals of modernising airports and AAI and employee related issues including their job security.

"Unfortunately no meeting of tripartite committee was organised between March 29 to May four, 2006 whereas the committee was required to submit its report within three months," the letter said.

Ghoshal said the decision to handover the airports without taking employees into confidence "is a gross violation and not acceptable to the employees of AAI and this act has brought unrest among the employees.

"AAIEJF, therefore, requests the AAI management and Governmnt to refrain from going ahead with action and request to withhold the transfer of Mumbai and Delhi airports till the tripartite committee concludes its findings," it said.

The union warned that if these steps was not taken, the AAI employees would "undertake any spontaneous industrial action" and the entire responsibility due to that action will be on the AAI management and Government.
