Morsi's trial adjourned to Feb 1

Cairo, Jan 8 (IANS): The trial of ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi on charges of inciting the killing of protestors was Wednesday adjourned to Feb 1, after the Islamist leader could not be taken to court due to bad weather.

Morsi was scheduled to appear in the Cairo Criminal Court Wednesday for the second session of his trial, Xinhua reported.

"The helicopter has not taken off due to the bad weather and it will not do if the bad weather continues," official news agency MENA quoted General Nasser al-Abd, head of Alexandria's detective department, as saying.

During his first appearance in court Nov 4, 2013, Morsi insisted that he was still the legitimate president of Egypt.

Morsi was ousted by the military July 3, following mass protests against his one-year rule and his Muslim Brotherhood group, which has been recently declared by the interim government as a terrorist organisation.
