President seeks radical change in education methods

Malda, Jan 10 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee Friday called for a radical change in education methods so as to contribute to innovation, discovery and research.

Inaugurating the 125th Anniversary of the Chanchal Siddheswari Institution at Chanchal in Malda district, Mukherjee said India needed to turn itself into a knowledge-based society.

"Education provides the basic foundation for economic growth. There is need for a radical change in education methods so as to contribute to innovation, discovery and research," he said.

The president pointed out that the level of technology in each country determines its strength and called for an interlinking of all levels of education, from school to college and research so that modern and high quality education can be provided to the youth of India.

Mukherjee also unveiled a statue of late author Shibram Chakraborty.
