Mangaluru, Mar 16: With the tagline ‘Indian at Heart, Global in Healthcare’, Indiana Hospital & Heart Institute, Mangaluru, has steadily evolved into one of the most trusted healthcare destinations for patients across coastal and Malnad Karnataka as well as neighbouring North Kerala.
Strategically located at the convergence of three national highways, the NABH-accredited hospital offers easy accessibility and serves as a 300-bedded tertiary care centre equipped with the latest medical technologies.

Providing world-class diagnostic and treatment facilities across more than 30 super-specialty and specialty departments, Indiana Hospital stands today as a comprehensive hub of healthcare under one roof. The institution is widely recognised for its Centres of Excellence in cardiology, pediatrics, neurology, and cancer care. Its NABH- and NNF-accredited 3A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has set new benchmarks in the care of newborn and preterm infants. The hospital has also earned the prestigious NABH Nursing Excellence certification, reflecting its unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and compassionate patient care.
The cardiology department remains the pride of Indiana Hospital, having established itself as a regional leader in cardiothoracic surgery and advanced heart care. The hospital has pioneered several structural heart disease programmes and was the first in Mangaluru to successfully perform valve-in-valve TAVR procedures—an important milestone in minimally invasive cardiac interventions. Over the past five years, the hospital has achieved another landmark with more than 300 successful image-guided LMCA bifurcation PCI procedures, reaffirming its position as a centre of excellence in advanced cardiac care.
Continuing its tradition of innovation, Indiana recently introduced laser angioplasty, becoming the first hospital in the coastal districts of Karnataka to offer this cutting-edge technology. Within a short span, the hospital has successfully performed more than 200 laser angioplasty procedures under the leadership of Dr Yusuf A Kumble, managing director and chief interventional cardiologist.
Indiana Hospital was founded by the renowned Kumble brothers—Dr Yusuf A Kumble and Dr Ali Kumble, chairman and head of pediatrics—whose vision was to create a healthcare institution that combines global medical standards with humane and accessible care.
Beyond clinical excellence, Indiana has deeply invested in academic advancement and medical training. The hospital serves as a centre for DNB specialty and super-specialty programmes, including a DNB course in cardiology, and also conducts an NNF Fellowship in Neonatology for doctors and nurses. The Indiana Group of Institutions further strengthens this commitment by offering education in nursing, allied health sciences, and physiotherapy.
Extending its reach beyond Mangaluru, the institution has established three healthcare centres: The Janapriya Indiana Heart Lifeline in Hassan, the Indiana SJM Heart Centre in Chitradurga, Indiana Hospital Bekal in Kasaragod and Indiana TMH Cardiac Centre, Thalassery, ensuring specialised care reaches a wider population.
Indiana has also entered a new phase in advanced care with the launch of its Indiana Transplant Centre. Indiana has been a Kidney Transplant Centre for over a decade, and is now an approved centre for liver and heart transplant. The centre stands as a beacon of hope for patients with end-stage organ failure, offering life-saving procedures backed by advanced infrastructure and multidisciplinary expertise.
With its blend of cutting-edge medical technology, skilled professionals, strong academic initiatives, and a deeply patient-centric ethos, Indiana Hospital & Heart Institute continues to embody its vision—delivering holistic, world-class healthcare powered by innovation, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to bringing healing and hope to every patient.
