Need for synergy among various departments: Tirath

New Delhi, Jan 14 (IANS): There is an urgent need to bring about synergy and convergence among various departments of the government, Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath said here Tuesday.

"There is an urgent need to bring about a synergy and convergence with various departments and ministries of the government," she said.

Tirath said the onus was on the government to ensure free and elementary education to all children in the age group of 6 to 14 years.

It casts a legal obligation on both the central and state governments to implement this fundamental child right as enshrined in the Indian Constitution, she said, inaugurating the national convention on completion of three years of the Right to Education Act.

Around 300 people associated with the implementation of the Right to Education Act and other stakeholders from across the country participated in the convention jointly organised by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and Unicef.

Other ministries such as human resource development, social justice and empowerment, health and family welfare and tribal and minority affairs should also be taken on board for efficient working, she said.
