No party to get majority in India's 2014 polls: US spy chief

Washington, Jan 30 (PTI): Coalition politics would continue to dominate India's governance as no party is likely to get a clear majority in the 2014 general election, a senior US intelligence official said today.

"Coalition politics will almost certainly dominate Indian governance. Since the 1984 national elections, no party has won a clear majority in the lower house of Parliament.

"We judge that this trend will continue with the 2014 election, and the proliferation of political parties will further complicate political consensus building," said James Clapper, Director of US National Intelligence.

In this election year in particular, coalition politics and institutional challenges will remain the primary drivers of India's economic and foreign policy decision making, he said while testifying before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

"Any future government installed after the 2014 election will probably have a positive view of the US, but future legislation or policy changes that are consistent with US interests is not assured," Clapper said.

"In 2014, India will probably attain a 5 per cent average annual growth rate, significantly less than the 8 per cent growth that it achieved from 2005 to 2012 and that is needed to achieve its policy goals," he said.

Besides, Clapper said India shares American objectives for a stable and democratic Pakistan that can encourage trade and economic integration between South and Central Asia.

US SPY -CIA closely monitoring Indian election outcomes? For whose benefit- India or US?. It looks like US is more concerned as to who is better to make money, sell arms and loot Indian coffers. BJP take a note. US has minted wealth under Manmohan Singh.

It looks Daiji readers did not get the message. Mr. James Clapper sent a negative image of India to US businessman that ... future investment in India is risky.

Fractured mandate in the 2014 election is known forecast!
However, it is not good for the nation, like it is in Delhi. Absolute power without adequate opposition and fractured mandate, which makes Govt weak, both will result in bad governance.
In such scenario, trouble makers take full advantage.

Pay 10 rupees to a neighbor so that he makes some nasty thing and the other neighbor buy a CCTV set up/buy weapon from you to restrict him... And these (na)pakis don't wanna understand that. idi....

5 to 9 % growth is the best for any country. Anything in double digits is dangerous and may have a catastrophic effect. You cannot build infrastructure if you grow too fast considering the bottlenecks we face in India.China is now regretting the double digit growth with huge debt, smoke all over cities, rural areas destroyed ,one child policy having a huge impact and now is being reversed. Today look the number of cars on the road and imagine you double the same every three years if you have a double digit growth. Slow growth will help rural transformation in a much more systematic way..
