New Delhi, Jul 9: In a significant boost to India's naval capabilities, the Indian Navy has successfully carried out user trials of the indigenously developed Extended Range Anti-Submarine Rocket (ERASR) system from warship INS Kavaratti.
The trials, conducted between June 23 and July 7, mark a major step in strengthening the Navy’s anti-submarine warfare arsenal. The system was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in collaboration with the Indian Navy and domestic industry.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, Indian Navy, and industry partners for the successful testing. “The successful induction of this system will boost the striking power of the Indian Navy,” said Singh’s office in a post on ‘X’.
The ERASR is a fully indigenous weapon system featuring a twin-rocket motor configuration designed to address a wide range of operational needs with high accuracy. A total of 17 rockets were evaluated during the trials, successfully demonstrating performance benchmarks in range, electronic time fuze functioning, and warhead impact.
The Indian Navy said the success of ERASR trials underscores the country's growing self-reliance in critical defence technologies and adds a potent edge to maritime defence operations.
