Mumbai, May 22: A family from Dharavi in Mumbai had sent a letter to the President, Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India, seeking permission to commit suicide.
But till date they have received no reply from any of them.
Driver to desperation, the Mukhtar family has now come up with a deadline for the government's response on the issue.
"We have set a deadline. If help does not come by 5 pm on May 31, our family will commit suicide," said Mahfooz, a muscular dystrophy patient.
Long suffering
Mahfooz and Khurshida, have muscular dystrophy, a degenerative disease, while their father Mukhtar Ahmed suffers from asthma and their mother is battling cancer.
Such is their condition that for the family, death seems the only option to ease the pain.
"We have been suffering for 10 years, but have received no help from the government," said Mukhtar Ahmed, Mahfooz's father.
The government may not have responded, but after seeing reports on NDTV, a lot of people have been moved to help.
But for the Mukhtars, this is not enough, which is why they have now set the government a deadline till May 31 for taking the extreme step.
