Udupi, Feb 21: Through a media release, district Congress general secretary, B Narasimha Murthy, said that three trains are being flagged off from Mangalore on February 23, because of the efforts put forth in this direction by the party’s Lok Sabha member, Jayaprakash Hegde.
On February 23, three trains are scheduled to be unveiled at Mangalore Central station. They are, Mangalore Central - Madgaon Inter-city Express, Mangalore-Kachiguda biweekly Express, and Mangalore-Bhatkal DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) trains.
Union railway minister, Mallikarjun Kharge, will be flagging off these trains. In addition, Kharge will also initiate works on new railway line between Chikmagalur and Sakleshpur, he added.
"Because of the pressure brought on the previous railway minister, Pawankumar Bansal, by MP Jayaprakash Hegde, with the assistance of minister, Oscar Fernandes, these trains are becoming a reality now."
Murthy added that an express train to Chikmagalur is already running daily from Bangalore.
He said that the DMU train between Bhatkal and Mangalore will come handy for those who commute between the town and Mangalore every day.
